‘The Book of Boba Fett’: Franchise Killer Or Savior? [Bingeworthy Podcast]

Bingeworthy has returned—the relaunch of a fairly-long dormant Playlist TV podcast that will no longer stay asleep! We’ve been in a new, supercharged and advanced age of streaming for about two years now— the uber years beyond Netflix. Everyone has their “+” subscription service, and, hell, Disney+ only launched at the very end of 2019, with Apple, Paramount, Peacock quickly following in their footsteps in the subsequent year (with more to come to be sure).

Television is changing, long-form storytelling is evolving, the adult drama has migrated to TV, top-shelf filmmakers have followed, and the mini-series has become almost its own hybrid genre in between —  and on Bingeworthy, we want to discuss what we watch and how we watch it. Hosted by myself Mike DeAngelo and Editor-in-Chief of the Playlist, Rodrigo Perez, we are in the oversaturated age of “Too Much Content” ™, and we want Bingeworthy to cut through the noise and focus on the buzziest shows that are worthy of your time.

Usually, Rodrigo and I find ourselves digging into “Yellowstone” and “1883” on our “Yellowstoners” podcast, but, with our first episode, we find ourselves stepping into a galaxy far, far away to discuss the Disney+ show “The Book of Boba Fett,” which just finished its first season this week with its seventh, and perhaps final episode.

We discussed the popular show’s entire first season during our chat, which may not be great, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t fascinating and worthy of a conversation. Was there more to the Boba Fett character than just mystery? Does the show stand on its own? Is this show merely a pivoted prequel to “The Mandalorian” Season 3 that’s slated to arrive next year? Does this completely shatter “Star Wars” as a franchise? There are so many juicy questions to discuss, and we get to all of them.
